Dead letters! does it not sound like dead men?
Herman Melville, Bartleby, the Scrivener, 1853
Write to someone who died. The night clerk will ask you a few questions, help you put what you remember in order, and never show your letter to anyone.
The clerk is Gemma, an open-weight model from Google. It works inside this browser tab. No server sits behind this page, so there is nowhere for your letter to go.
The first time, the model is downloaded once from Hugging Face and kept by your browser. After that the office works with the internet switched off.
The clerk is coming down the stairs.
Starting.
This download is the only time this page talks to the internet. Keep an eye on Outgoing mail at the top. Once the clerk is at the desk it should stay at zero.
Night clerk: Good evening. Who is the letter for?
Night clerk: I'll put your words in order.
